How to Create a Virtual Machine in Virtualbox Complete with Pictures

Before ane has discussed how to install virtualbox applications in windows, now ane will how to create a virtual machine in a virtualbox whose function is to place the operating system in place, likened to a virtual machine as a physical computer.

To make a virtual machine is very easy once the user just needs to install the virtualbox application on the computer and prepare the file *.iso the operating system that wants to run, Here are the steps to create a new virtual machine in the virtualbox and with the description.

Step - Step To Create a Virtual Machine in VirtualBox

First open the virtual box application to create, after opening the next virtualbox.

Click the gear icon with the name "NEW", until a new menu appears in the virtualbox.

Note

The example here uses the FreeBSD operating system to run on a virtual machine

Name : FreeBSD
The name for the new virtual machine to run, here the virtual machine will run to run the freebsd operating system.

Machine Folder : C:\Users\ANGGA\VirtualBox VMs
Where the storage of the operating system file to be run, automatically has been determined by the virtualbox then leave it alone by default.

Type : BSD
This type of operating system will be installed and run on a virtual machine here using UNIX distro from BSD.

Version : FreeBSD (64-bit)
The operating system used is 64-bit architecture.

Then click next to continue creating the virtual machine.

Furthermore, the provision of ram size for virtual machines used by freebsd operating systems, for example here giving ram for 1 GB, then choose next to continue.

click create

Select Next only

Select Next only

Giving the size of the hard drive for the virtual machine used to place the operating system, here gives the hard drive size amounting to 25 GB.

The results of creating a virtual machine will be seen on the left of the virtualbox, because here it will use the freebsd operating system then the icon appears from freebsd.

Virtual Machine Basic Settings

Select the virtual machine to be set, for example here which will be in the virtual machine setting named "FreeBSD", and then select the settings menu at the top virtualbox.

Make sure the settings menu that was previously selected appears, such as the image below

After entering the settings go to the system menu, then the motherboard menu, uncheck the one called Floppy Disk and move it to the bottom, the purpose of this setting is for the virtualbox to read the iso file from optical in the virtualbox.

After you finish entering the storage menu on the left, select the Empty storage device, on the right click the cd-shaped one and then select Choose a disk file... , it will be directed to a new menu to enter the iso file.

Enter the iso file of the operating system to be run in the virtual machine virtualbox, for example here will run the unix freebsd operating system and then press open.

As a result, the iso file from freebsd has entered the virtual machine virtualbox.

After finishing entering the network menu on the left side of the virtual machine, the function of this network so that the operating system running on the virtual machine can be connected to the internet.

The example here uses 2 network adapters, namely

  • NAT (Network Address Translation)
This NAT function makes virtualbox as a firewall whose function is as the border of ip public (Internet) with ip private (local area network), in addition to using this type of adapter does not need manual settings in its operating system because it will be given automatically from virtualbox or commonly called dhcp server.

Bridge Adapter, by using this feature we can set ip address, netmask, gateway and dns manually with the internet source we use.

After finishing doing the basis of the virtual machine, you can directly run the virtual machine that has the iso file of the operating system, to run the virtual machine press start or land arrow to the right which is green, wait until the installation process menu appears.

The process view runs a virtual machine and boots freebsd.

Well that's how to create a virtual machine and basic settings virtual machine in virtualbox.

Note

For the operating system can be adjusted that you want to run in the virtual machine virtualbox, for the steps are the same as above that distinguish only from the operating system.
